The Hoosier Salon Patrons Association

An invitational preview reception opened the 83rd Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition on Sunday, July 22, 2007. The Hoosier Salon Patrons Association presented Axie L. Frey, of Lafayette, and a resident artist of Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown, a $500.00 Merit Award for First-Time Exhibitor and for Outstanding Floral Watercolor for her painting entitled "Shimmering”.

The exhibition, featuring 174 two- and three-dimensional works in a medley of styles and media, is on display in the Wilbur E. and Florence Jessup Ford Gallery, on the third floor of the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, in White River State Park. Works are by Hoosier artists, and all works are for sale.

The show is open to the public. Works may be viewed during museum hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free for museum members and children under 3, $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $4 for children ages 3-12.

To enter this juried show an artist must be a current resident or have lived in the state of Indiana for at least one year and be a dues-paying Hoosier Salon member. This year, 586 works were submitted. The exhibition features 36 first-time exhibitors. The jury included Ann Piper, associate professor of painting and drawing at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan., and Scott Wolniak, who teaches studio art in various media at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago.

A portion of the touring 83 rd Annual Exhibition will be on display at the Sugar Creek Art Center from January 7 - February 4, 2008.


The Griffith Park Art Festival Award

Now in its 33rd year, the Griffith Park Art Festival recently awarded one of Sugar Creek Art Center’s own resident artists, Audrey Elaine Owens-Krawczyk, a cash prize of $150. and First Place in Oils, for the body of her works on display at the juried Art Fair.
